UNIVISION

LATINO LEADERS MAGAZINE 2006

THE LIST; 101 Top Leaders of the Latino Community in the U.S.

Who he is: born in Mexico IN 1958 Ramos is the eldest of the five children. He graduated with a degree in Communication from Universidad Iberoamericana de Mexico and later received his M.S. from the University of Miami. He immigrated to California in 1983 and just one later began
broadcasting for the network that would become Univision, where he is the main news anchor today. His newscast is seen by over one million viewers in the United States and in 13 Latin American countries. He just celebrated his 20-year anniversary as senior anchor in November.

Why he made the list:

Ramos is one of the most respected journalists and most influential Spanish-language news anchors to 40 million Hispanics in the United States and Latin American countries. He was the first American network TV evening news anchor to broadcast live from the Middle East at the inception of the Iraq War. In addition to that, he has covered numerous
wars and witnessed some of the most important news stories of the last two decades, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disintegration of the former Soviet Union. While he is often considered the unofficial voice of Latinos in the mainstream American press, Ramos is certainly one of the most recognizable faces in Spanish-language
news.

Our prediction:

Look for Ramos to once again top his writing muse to produce another successful, visionary depiction of Latinos, as he joins the ranks of news icons like Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite and Peter Jennings.
