August 8, 2008 (New York, NY)  -- Univision’s renowned and respected news anchor and award-winning journalist Jorge Ramos will be the 2008 recipient of the prestigious and coveted Award for a Lifetime of Achievement in Hispanic Television, which is presented collectively by leading television trade publications, Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable.  The announcement was made today by Larry Dunn, the Publisher for the two trade publications.

“We at Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable are thrilled and honored that Jorge Ramos has accepted our invitation to receive this award,” said Dunn.

Jorge Ramos has covered issues of interest to Hispanic Americans, ranging from elections in the U.S. and Latin America, to natural disasters and wars, to human rights and injustices in the U.S. and around the world.  He is one of the most respected broadcast journalists in the U.S. and Latin America and is the co-anchor of Univision’s award-winning evening news program “Noticiero Univision.”  Ramos also hosts “Al Punto,” Univision’s Sunday-morning political talk show, featuring exclusive interviews with prominent newsmakers, as well as a roundtable analysis of current events.  In addition, the award recipient has co-hosted two historic political forums, with Democratic and Republican presidential candidates in Spanish, and one debate co-hosted with CNN.

Dunn continued, “Jorge Ramos is most certainly deserving of this industry acknowledgement as he is highly-regarded by his colleagues in both Spanish- and English-language television.  But, perhaps he is most deserving because of his professional approach to the news, which is reflected by his popularity with his loyal viewers.”
In fact, “Noticiero Univision,” the newscast co-anchored by Ramos, is currently delivering its highest audience levels with Adults 25-54.  And, on average, more than half a million viewers tune in every Sunday morning to watch Univision’s “Al Punto.”
Jorge Ramos joins the ranks of noteworthy award recipients who have preceded him, including Sábado Gigante host Don Francisco (Mario Kreutzberger); popular sportscaster Andres Cantor; noted news journalist Maria Celeste Arraras; and beloved talk-show host of El Show de Cristina, Cristina Saralegui.
The Award is presented annually during the Hispanic Television Summit.  The Summit is the premiere event of its kind that addresses the current state of the Hispanic television and digital video environment in the U.S. and Latin America.   The 2008 Summit is expected to draw an attendance of 300 executives in television, digital video, advertising, marketing, production, technology and financial investment.  This is the sixth time this annual event has been presented by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable.  This year’s Summit is to be held at the NY Hilton Hotel on Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The dates of the Summit are Wednesday, October 22 and Thursday October 23, 2008.  The award will be presented during Thursday’s luncheon, scheduled for 12 noon.   For more information about the Award, or how to
